Friday, October 16th, 5:30 PM – 9:30PM
We have some exciting news! Orange Coast College is hosting it’s annual Science night on Friday, October 16th, from 5:30PM – 9:30PM on campus and we will be apart of the event. We’ll have our own exhibit in the horticulture department and we’re looking towards our horticulture club members and volunteers to come out and show some support!
We’ll need people to help us entertain our guests and keep things running smoothly during their time on our side of campus. Our staff and volunteers will be out here setting up for science night at noon, so if you have any time to spare from then to the end of the night, please let us know. There’s plenty to do!
If you don’t have time to spare but would still like to help out, you can chip in by preparing some lavender cookies and lemonade for our guests. These are a hit every year, so we’re hoping to keep everyone happy. You’ll find the recipe below. If you’re planning on contributing, please let us know so we can keep track.
Makes about 3 dozen. Each about the size of a silver dollar.
1 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour
Lavender Sugar (below)
Cream the butter and sugar.
Gradually add the salt and flour.
Chill the dough for 1 hour, or until it is firm enough to handle.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Form the dough into 1-inch balls and roll them in Lavender Sugar.
Press each ball with your thumb.
Place them on ungreased baking sheets and bake 12 to 15 minutes.
Cool on racks.
1 cup dried lavender blossoms
1 cup sugar (course, if available)
Mix thoroughly. Keep mixing this as you use it; it tends to separate.
Steep 1/2 cup dried lavender flowers in 1 quart boiling water for a few minutes, straining, and using the strained liquid to make up part of the water for 1 gallon reconstituted frozen lemonade.
We’ll see you there!
